March 2006 is ending and we finally say godbye to this everlasting winter. The best winter in many years - if you like cold & crispy Bing Crosby weather with white snow almost for three months. Under all of this snow there where actually spiring some flowers! This year too!

-oOo-

I have been thinking of rusty & leaking fuel tanks lately. So I finally opned them both up. Help! a lot of rust inside!

But when I examined the granulate at the bottom it seems to from glas - ahhh the welder havn't cleaned the weldings... so in time the welding"crap" had fallen down to the bottom.

Actually the tanks where in excellent condition with no rust at all! Great! Of course they will be cleaned but it seems unessesary to paint them. If they look like this after 22 years then theres no need to do anything for the next 25 years - then I'm over 70 years old...
This is a strange picture of the insulation behind the tanks on starboard side. In the aft/rear of picture is the fuel tank hanging and the new polyurethan insulation is in place. In the front is whats left of the insulation after I have welded new sturdy fastenings for the watertanks.

It will also be foamed around the tanks. Why should I heat up over 800 liters of liquid from inside the boat? And actually if water/fuel is cold then the warm inside air will turn into water and drip down below...

(Kind of odd to be so scared of water when building a boat.)
