July 2006

No - we couldn't stand another summer without a boat :-) So we decided to by one again.

The target was a 100% ready-and-go boat. I don't need two boats to fix ;-)

We tried to buy a Maxi 84 witch there is plenty of and like a "Volvo on the sea" - Everyone knows whats it is...but the ones for sale where in a terrible condition after to little care and 25 years...

But we did find a perfect boat: a TRIO 80 from 1980 and that for 25% less cost of an Maxi 84 - and it sails better and is safer with better equipment. I could write quite some article about Maxi by now...(I wont)
Johan catching LOTS of makrell as usual!
There is a strange story about the boat. My father sailed thrue Smögen in the year 1980 and saw a test-boat for Pirat-Segel. It was a Swedish Sail design company that had this hull for sale. He bought it with a new deck on and got the wood-interior kit. Launched her in 1981. Mom&Dad then sailed this Trio 80, Yggdrasil 7917, until 1988 when they sold it for a bigger boat. Then I happend to buy it "back to the family" from this second owner. During these 18 years they really loved this boat! All care and love in the world had been put down in to this boat. Even the teak in cockpit is good as new. Sails was replaces 10 years ago. It even had been standing inside during winters all these years.
Yah! She's a pearl!
Cajsa had catching an "ostron"... oyster.. :-)
And a quite "normal" evening in the Swedish summer of 2006.
One of the hottest for hundred years in Sweden!!!

(Yes, the sun is going down, but in July that takes many hours. It's only dark for 2-3 hours - 58 degree North :-)
